What is your current role?
I work in the foodservice industry. It is my job to sell protein solutions to commercial foodservice operators in San Diego and greater areas.
What career experiences led you to your current role?
I had the opportunity to go through four internship programs and two of them were in sales. I decided that I wanted to use my food and agricultural experiences to work in the industry.
What do you do on a daily basis?
I travel throughout my territory to meet with food and beverage directors, owners, operators, and executive for chefs both corporate and family-owned businesses to find protein options for their operations that allow them thrive as foodservice operations. It is my responsibility to make sure these businesses are successful and to sell solutions that will improve their bottom lines.
What do you like most about your job?
The relationships that I get to build and meeting with new people every single day while helping people with their livelihoods are my favorite parts about my job.
What advice would you give to a student considering a similar career?
A position in sales can be challenging, but at the end of the day it is a very rewarding field to be in. It takes time to build relationships, but always be willing to learn and meet new people. You never know where you'll end up.
If you had a personal finance course in high school or college, what was your biggest takeaway? If you didn't have a class, what do you wish you learned about personal finance in school?
Budgeting is key, especially right outside of college when you get your first job. You want to make sure to set good habits early in your career when it comes to budgeting, investing, etc.
